With Christmas parties and end-of-year functions in full swing, police will be out in force from today patrolling bars, roads and highways to prevent alcohol-related accidents.
Police will enforce a range of prevention-focused operations across Tanzania and greater Dar es Salaam districts, including random breath testing and alcohol checkpoints, speed enforcement, and foot patrols through bars, clubs, and other venues.
They urge party-goers to be responsible around alcohol during the holiday season.
Briefing reporters in Dar es Salaam yesterday, Police spokesperson Advera Bulimba said from today, all public service vehicles were not allowed to carry passengers beyond their licensed capacity no matter how big the need for transport may rise.
The directive includes motor cycles commonly known as bodaboda as well as three-wheeler cycles popularly called Bajaj, that also engage in transportation of passengers all over the country.
“If you take alcohol, be warned because from today, officers with breathalyzers will man roads to keep off those who drink and drive, “the officer said.
